Explore impressions and feelings of the man and his legacy. The Prizes: Best of Show $500; First place in each category $100; Second place in each category $50. March 24: Illinois College Fine Arts Series Concert: Chamber Ensemble from Ravinia Festival Stearns Institute performing a Lincoln work commissioned by the Illinois Lincoln Bicentennial Commission entitled “Lincoln Times.”
March 27: "Lincoln Seen and Heard" The Illinois State Historical Society Co-hosting with Illinois College the Annual Symposium. Headliners will include Lincoln author and stage performer Harold Holzer and noted, acclaimed actor Richard Dreyfuss. March 26-27-28: Annual ISHS annual Symposium, this year entitled “Abraham Lincoln in Ante-Bellum Illinois: 1830-1861.” Complete details on the Illinois State Historical Society Symposium can be found at historyillinois.org. The event will feature more than 70 scholars from across the state and nation who will share their research and knowledge on those historic times with such general topics as abolitionism and the Underground Railroad, along with Lincoln's law practice and political career in Illinois, and his many local connections to Jacksonville and Illinois College.
Papers will be delivered by noted Lincoln scholars and and historians as well as a section for college student presenters.
APRIL 2009
April 3: Art Exhibition. "Thinking of Lincoln" Downtown Gallery Hop featuring children's art and a special exhibition called "Inspired by Lincoln: Drawing, painting and photography inspired by his words, his actions and his time..." Opening receptions around the plaza starting at 5 p.m. in downtown Jacksonville. Exhibits continue through April 30.
April 6: IC/MacMurray Speakers Series: “Abraham Lincoln in Song” featuring Chris Vallillo at Illinois College, Sibert Theater, 7 p.m. Open to the Public.
April 15: Ron Keller's program "How We View Our History: The Changing Image of the 16th President" is free and open to the public. It will be in the Fireside Room at Hamilton's beginning at 7:15 p.m. Mr. Keller is curator of the Lincoln Heritage Museum at Lincoln College in Lincoln, Ill., and an Illinois Humanities Council Road Scholar. This Power Point show is part of the League of Women Voters Annual Meeting. The public is also welcome to the cash bar at 6 p.m. and dinner at 6:30 p.m. The cost is $15 for the meal to be paid by check to the League by April 10. More information is available from

April 18: The Underground Railroad Committee of the Morgan County Historical Society will host their Bi-Annual Gala: “Let Every Man Remember … Lincoln the President Who Freed the Slaves.” The event will include a dinner and concert combining music and dramatic reenactments at both festivities. Ticket prices to banquet and/or concert TBA.
April 19: The UGRR Committee will conduct Tours of Greater Jacksonville's Nine Underground Railroad Sites in the early afternoon and then join with the IC Fine Arts Series “Shadow Puppets and the Underground Railroad” at Rammelkamp Chapel (times TBA).
April (TBA): The Grierson Society will host a Period Dinner and Costumed Ball featuring a historic Regimental Band playing music of the era. The Lincolns will both be present as will General Grierson and other notable Illinois Lincoln friends. Ticket Prices TBA
MAY 2009
May 2: Final Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra Concert of the Season featuring a World Premier commissioned piece with narrator (Ken Bradbury) and wind orchestra highlighting some of the dark and brightly shining moments of Lincoln's youth and young manhood set to music by Illinois Composer William Hines. At Rammelkamp Chapel on the Illinois College campus. 7:30 p.m. Tickets $12.
May 10: Illinois College 2009 Commencement: Lincoln may appear and receive his long overdue honorary Bachelor's Degree from the IC professor he gave credit for providing his “only instruction in the English language.” 3:00 p.m. Upper Quad.
May 27: The Governor Duncan Association will feature Reg Ankrom at the Duncan Mansion telling of the relationships of “Duncan, Douglas, and Lincoln.” Reception at 6:30; Performance at 7 in the evening. Open to the Public.
